Let's face it - this summer is HOT! And there's no better way to cool off on a hot day than going to a great swimming hole!

I know a great one on the Jacks River. This is a very very short and easy hike. Only about a half mile or so on a wide flat trail. This isn't to the falls.

It has big rocks for sitting and sunning and has a very deep hole for great swimming. This would be a easy hike for anyone at any level of physical condition. We will hike and swim and have a lunch and given it's distance we may even bring a small grill to cook burgers or hotdogs. This is a child friendly event. Your kids will have a blast.

Where: The Alaculsy Valley Trailhead of the Jacks River Trail.

When: Saturday August 14th. 9:30 AM.

Carpool/Caravan: We will meet up in the parking lot of the Staples office supply store at Hamilton Place Mall. It's next to where the Circuit City used to be. We will be taking the northerly route to the Jacks River. It's less distance on gravel roads and a lot fewer potholes for those of you without SUV's than the southern route that more of you may be familiar with.

What to Bring: Swimming Trunks, towel, a picnic lunch and drinks, sunscreen. And some water shoes/ sandals to swim in. Some of the rocks might be hard to climb with bare feet. Even a small blowup float if you want. Swim goggles and a snorkle would also be fun - there are fish to be seen! It's a big deep pool!

The Plan: We should get to the trailhead about 10:30 and out to the swimming hole by 11:00 or so. We'll swim and play for about 2 hours or so and head back to the cars. Then back to Chattanooga. This should get everyone back to Chattanooga around 3:00 so you will have plenty of time for other Saturday evening activities.

  9:30 AM at Staples - it's 45 minutes or so out there. The plan with this is that we get out there with plenty of time to swim and picnic and still get back to Chattanooga early enough so that thing like dinner plans are no problem.
