Join us for one of the most scenic hiking trails overlooking the Tennessee Valley River Gorge. Signal Mountain is the southern tip of the Cumberland range. The trail follows bluff tops and ridges 1,800 and 2,000 ft. above sea level, drops into ravines lush with hemlocks towering over tangled growths of laurel and rhododendron, and crosses Middle, Julia, and Suck creeks. The view from Edwards Point covers a long stretch of the "Grand Canyon of the Tennessee," with historic Williams Island below on the left and the city of Chattanooga in the background.

We will begin our hike on the Mullins Cove trail in Prentice Cooper State Park. At mile 3.4 we will take in the views of Suck Creek and the Tennessee River at Lawson's rock. We will continue on, and at mile 5.6 descend the stairs and cross Highway 27. A swinging bridge will take us across suck creek only to expose an arduous .6 mile climb up a ridge. We will then walk the ridge crest and make a steep decent toward North suck creek. At 7 miles we will cross another suspension bridge over North Suck creek. After climbing switchbacks up the ridge we will come to Mushroom rock and proceed on to Edwards point. After taking in the views we will descend into the gorge and finally make the accent to Signal point at 13.7miles!

Please post y'all's pictures from this hike in here so everyone who didn't get to go on a hike today can all see what a gorgeous day on and in between the mountains (technically plateaus) it was today!

I just did a test hike of the upcoming "Hike and swim at North Suck Creek" Sunday May 23 & ran into the group of several led by Trey at Mushroom Rock around 1:30PM. It took me @25 min to speed-hike from the parking lot to MR & about another 15 to hike down to the "blue hole". I never understood why local folks here call them all "blue holes". I'm from New Orleans. I just call them swimming holes but this one looks green to me so I'll name it the "Green Hole". Hike out took an hour.Creek was high

That's a long, rugged hike y'all! Be sure that u are up for it if u go because hiking that trail is a whole lot different than just walking around a track or on level pavement for 13 miles, that's 4 sure! I've hiked the whole thing (the whole Signal Mtn side anyway) except the part fr/ where Trey is starting in Prentice Cooper on Suck Creek Mtn down 2 just after the stairs at Hwy 27 (Suck Creek Rd). The hike is going 2 take some serious time & a lot of effort 4 sure! Good luck & have fun!

Larry, we would like to offer "kid friendly events". This trip is not one of them though. If you would consider hosting a "kid friendly event", please email me!

Would love to go. Bummed that I cannot. I've missed several hikes so far due to Saturday scheduling conflicts. Is anyone interested in scheduling some of these things on Sundays?
