Yes! Tennis shoes will be fine! I would suggest that you layer your clothing. Base layer( capilene, ) next fleece, and and outer wind shell. If you don't have this material, you'll be fine, just layer up with whatever and come on!

We've never hiked in this area, especially this time of year. I have a few questions- 1. What should we wear? 2. We don't have money for hiking boots right now, will tennis shoes work for this one?

A good beginner hike might be chillhowee above parksville lake...if 64 is open that far....but that trail is only a mile long & has a waterfall at the end....very easy hike....& if you run into any bikers, the trail is wide enough that you wont get ran over.....have fun!

    •  Very good event. My only suggestion is that there be a better estimation of the distance. The distance on the listing was 3-4 miles, actual distance was 10 miles. For any with health concerns, this might have been a problem. Otherwise, a great day. Thanks, Derek
    •  I had a great time on the hike! I was proud that everyone was able to walk for so long on the riverwalk. I really enjoyed the dinner afterward at the Boathouse. I made some great new friends on the hike! I'll be more careful about the length of the hike next time. I hope to see everyone again soon at a future event!
    •  Good walk but may have been tough for beginners. Enjoyed the company and meeting new members.

The people were fun, and the area we walked in was nice, but it was over twice the length I had expected. Had I known it was going to be 10 miles instead of 4.5ish, I would have come more prepared (eg. water, better shoes and socks etc.) if I decided to go. I know I am out of shape and this walk killed me. It's Monday and I am having trouble walking, let alone the blisters on my feet!
    •  Enjoyed being outside and talking with everyone. Pretty good walk but longer than expected. Really feeling the burn today!
    •  Enjoyed the hike, though it was a bit longer than I anticipated. Really liked the idea of sitting down for a meal afterwards. Can't wait for the next one!
