Signal Point to Edwards Point
5.8-mile out and back. Rated moderate.
Join us for one of the most scenic hiking trails overlooking the Tennessee Valley River Gorge. Signal mountain is the southern tip of the Cumberland range. The trail follows bluff tops and ridges 1,800 and 2,000 ft. above sea level, drops into ravines lush with hemlocks towering over tangled growths of laurel and rhododendron, and crosses Middle, Julia, and Suck creeks. The view from Edwards Point covers a long stretch of the "Grand Canyon of the Tennessee," with historic Williams Island below on the left and the city of Chattanooga in the background.
We will began our hike at Signal point. We will hike down into the gorge via Signal point where we will cross Rainbow bridge. After crossing the bridge we will climb the ridge and ultimately make our way to Edwards Point, where we will take in all the views and have lunch. After lunch we will make our way back to Signal Point.

Hey Nikki use your own judgment. How do you feel about your abilities for a hike of this distance?

I don't hike very often. I know the waterfall hike won't be a very good one for me, but would this one be okay?

Lindsay, it is considered a moderate hike due to the terrain. There are some areas on the trail that require boulder hopping, as well as some uphill climbs. If you are accustomed to hiking, in good shape, and have good balance you should be fine. The drive form BI-LO to Signal Point is approx 5 miles. 2-3 dollars will suffice for carpool funds. Weather looks great!!! Anymore questions?

This is the first time I've joined one of these meetup groups. Is the hike considered moderate because of the length, or is it going to be dangerous for any reason? Will I just find out when I get there how much to pay the driver for carpool?

Don, we have limits to lessen the impact on other hikers on the trail, lessen the impact on the trail itself, and lessen the impact on wildlife.

I'm new to the group and have a question....why is there a limit on the number of people for a hike? I'm sure there's a good reason, I just can't think of one. I can't make it anyway since I have to work, but curious as to why this is this way. Enlighten me please....???
